Discrete Manufacturing

One platform for products that are designed, configured and assembled to order.

Solis System links the customer’s specification to the part on the bench. Quote an option, release the design, schedule the work and capture the evidence in the same system your teams already use every day.

What is discrete manufacturing?

Countable products, built from many parts, in many configurations.

Cars, aircraft components, machinery, electronics and medical devices are all discrete products. Each unit can be counted, serialised and traced back to the parts and people that made it, and that changes what your software must do.

  • Products are assembled from multi-level bills of material.
  • Routings define the operations, machines and skills needed.
  • Designs change often, so revisions must be controlled.
  • Customers and regulators expect lot and serial history.

Discrete

Distinct units built from components.

  • Bill of materials and routings
  • Work orders and operations
  • Serial and lot traceability
  • Variants and engineering changes

Process

Bulk output made from formulas.

  • Recipes and formulas
  • Batches and yields
  • Co-products and by-products
  • Potency and shelf-life control

Industry-specific by design

Software that understands bills of material, variants and revisions.

Generic ERP treats a product as a line item. Discrete manufacturing treats it as an assembly of many parts, built in many ways, changed many times. Solis System is organised around that reality from the first screen.

Guided configuration and quoting

Let sales choose valid options, price them and hand a complete specification to engineering and production without re-keying.

Product structure and revisions

Manage multi-level BOMs, alternates and routings, with approval workflow and effectivity dates for every engineering change.

Material and capacity planning

Explode demand into purchase and production orders, then sequence them against machines, tooling and labour you really have.

Work order control

Issue components, log labour and machine time, and confirm completed quantities from the point of work.

Inspection and compliance

Define checks per operation, record measurements and route failed units to rework, scrap or concession with a full audit trail.

Equipment upkeep

Schedule preventive maintenance around production and log breakdowns, so critical machines stay available.

Choose how you build

Mix production styles without mixing systems.

A bespoke machine and a standard component rarely follow the same path. Solis System lets each product family use the model that fits, while finance and inventory stay unified.

Engineer-to-orderCustom projects with design phases, milestones and job costing.
Configure-to-orderPre-engineered options assembled into a customer-specific unit.
Make-to-orderProduction released only when a customer order is confirmed.
Repetitive productionRate-based runs planned against forecast and line capacity.

Beyond the shop floor

Connected modules that carry the product through its whole life.

Discrete manufacturers win or lose on how well engineering, supply, cost and insight work together. These areas share one data model, so no one reconciles spreadsheets.

Product lifecycle and engineering change

Move designs from concept to release under one controlled process.

  • Change requests, impact analysis and approvals
  • Revision history linked to open orders and stock
  • Controlled drawings and specifications at the station

Supply chain and procurement

Keep the right parts arriving at the right time, from the right suppliers.

  • Demand, inventory and supply plans in one view
  • Supplier performance and incoming inspection
  • Subcontracting and outside-processing orders

Costing and profitability

Know what each product, option and job really costs to make.

  • Standard and actual cost roll-ups by BOM level
  • Labour, machine and overhead absorption
  • Job and project margin against quote

Analytics and intelligent insight

Turn plant data into earlier warnings and better decisions.

  • Dashboards for output, scrap, delay and downtime
  • Alerts for late orders and material risk
  • Scenario views to compare plan options

The digital thread

Follow a single order from the first quote to the final test.

When configuration, engineering, planning and production share one record, a change made on Monday reaches the workshop on Monday. Nobody builds from an outdated drawing.

  • Carry customer options straight into the bill of materials.
  • Show operators only the current approved revision.
  • Link every finished unit to the lots and serials fitted to it.
  • Connect scanners, gauges and machine controllers when you are ready.

From cutting to shipping

Every department on the floor gets a system that fits its work.

Machining, assembly and stores each move at their own pace. Solis System keeps them synchronised without forcing them into the same routine.

Start with the basics, add intelligence as you go.

Begin with disciplined orders, revisions and inspections, then layer on machine connectivity and analytics when your plant is ready.

What changes for your business

Shorter lead times, fewer surprises and records you can stand behind.

Teams stop chasing information across spreadsheets and start working from a shared schedule that reflects the real state of the plant.

Reliable promise datesCommit to delivery using real capacity.
Less reworkStop errors where the operation happens.
Controlled engineering changeKnow which orders each revision affects.
Faster auditsPull records by unit, lot or operator.
01

Specify the product

Select options, price the order and confirm the configuration with the customer.

02

Finalise the design

Complete the BOM and routing, approve changes and release to the plant.

03

Schedule and source

Raise production and purchase orders after checking materials and machines.

04

Assemble and test

Report each operation, log defects and apply inspection plans along the way.

05

Ship and service

Deliver with full genealogy and keep serial history for warranty and support.

Challenges we help you solve

The everyday problems of building complex products.

If any of these sound familiar, the cause is usually disconnected information rather than a lack of effort on the floor.

Designs keep changing

Controlled revisions and effectivity make sure the plant builds the latest approved version.

Lead times are hard to promise

Scheduling against real capacity and material gives dates you can stand behind.

Shortages stop the line

Plan and kit ahead of release, and see risks before they become stoppages.

Defects reach the customer

In-process checks and holds catch problems at the operation where they begin.

Margins are unclear

Actual cost per job and per option shows where profit is made or lost.

Audits take weeks

Genealogy and inspection records are retrieved in minutes, not assembled by hand.

Who uses it

Each role sees the part of the story it needs.

Everyone from the estimator to the plant head reads from one set of numbers, filtered for the decisions they make.

Sales and estimating

Quotes built on options that engineering and production can actually deliver.

Design and process engineering

Revision-controlled structures that reach the workshop without delay or doubt.

Planning and purchasing

Clear visibility of shortages, lead times and loading before orders are released.

Production supervisors

A live list of what is running, waiting and late on every line.

Quality and compliance

How we work with you

A phased route from today’s plant to a connected one.

You do not need to change everything at once. We start where the value is clearest and expand as your teams gain confidence.

1. DiscoverMap products, routings, systems and the problems worth solving first.
2. DesignAgree data structures, workflows and the scope of the first release.
3. DeployMigrate data, train users and go live line by line or product by product.
4. ImproveReview results, add modules and connect equipment as needs grow.

Questions we often hear

Discrete manufacturing, answered.

How is discrete manufacturing software different from general ERP?

It manages multi-level bills of material, routings, revisions, work orders and serial or lot genealogy as core functions, rather than as add-ons. General ERP usually tracks products as stock items only.

Can we run engineer-to-order and standard products together?

Yes. Each product family can follow its own production model while sharing inventory, purchasing, costing and quality on one platform.

Do we need machine connectivity to get started?

No. Most plants begin with disciplined orders, reporting and inspections. Scanners, PLC and gauge integration can be added later where it pays off.

How do you handle engineering changes in the middle of production?

Changes are raised, approved and given an effectivity date. Open orders can be reviewed for impact so you decide whether to apply the change, finish on the old revision or rework stock.

Can the system support customer audits and certifications?

Inspection results, deviations and genealogy are stored against each unit or lot, so you can retrieve the evidence customers and certification bodies request.

How long does implementation take?

It depends on scope, data readiness and the number of plants. A phased approach lets you go live with the highest-value areas first and extend from there.
